Vesper Kids, most Sunday mornings.
What is the service actually like?
About fifty minutes. A few songs, some written centuries apart, a reading, and a sermon in plain language. Communion is the first Sunday of each month, and everyone is welcome at the table. Nobody will single you out, ask you to stand, or hand you a microphone.
What should I wear?
Whatever you already own. Any given Sunday has suits next to jeans next to a softball jersey when the league plays at noon. You cannot get it wrong.
Where do my kids go?
Kids stay with you for the first two songs, then head to Vesper Kids, two bright rooms down the hall with background-checked leaders and a craft table that never quite gets cleaned up. You get a tag matching your child's. Babies can stay with you the whole time, sounds and all.
Where do I park?
A small lot behind the building, off Birch Lane, plus free street parking along Rowan. Running late? The side door is open and the back rows are kept clear. The back rows are also the best seats. We all know it.
Sunday is the front door. The week is the house.
Groups meet in homes and in the fellowship hall. No sign-ups, no vetting, no minimum attendance. Come once and see.
Young adults
Thursdays · 7:30 pmTwenties and thirties, dinner first, doubts welcome. The conversation runs long and someone always misses the last bus on purpose.
Families
Second Saturdays · 10:00 amPark meetups, pancake mornings, and a hand-me-down swap that has clothed half the toddlers in Fernhill. Chaos is expected and catered for.
Choir
Tuesdays · 6:30 pmNo audition. If you can carry a tune most of the way there, Marta will find you a part and a folder with your name on it.
Neighborhood service
First Saturdays · 9:00 amYard work for neighbors who can't, meal trains, and the food shelf by the side door. Show up in work clothes; tools provided.

Meet Pastor Sam.
Samuel Varghese came to Vesper in 2012 after ten years as a hospital chaplain, which explains a lot. He preaches short, listens long, and has never once made a visitor stand up and be welcomed.
After both services you'll find him in the fellowship hall, coffee in hand, unhurried. Ask him anything. Hard questions are his favorite kind, and "I don't know yet" is an answer he actually uses.
"Church should feel like being expected. Someone kept you a seat, and it doesn't matter who you were on Tuesday."
Vesper runs on ordinary generosity. Gifts keep the food shelf stocked, the kids' rooms staffed, and the 1927 roof over all of it.
